FUMC Response to Hurricane Harvey Disaster

UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, is working hard to provide assistance to the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas, along with the Texas United Methodist conferences and their hundreds of volunteers.  FUMC encourages our members to support these efforts in several ways:   Pray for the victims, and those involved in rescue and relief efforts;  Give to support the relief efforts — use the ‘Donate’ link at www.umcor.org, or write a check to FUMC designated for “Hurricane Relief” and place in the offering starting on September 10;  Assemble flood cleanup kits for distribution by UMCOR (see materials list below).  Cathy Benson is coordinating this effort and will have sign-up sheets at worship services so you can choose needed items to purchase and bring to the first TOW on September 13 for assembly of the kits in 5-gallon buckets.  We hope to assemble at least 10 cleanup kits.

Rev. Dr.  Michael Lyle will preach at the FUMC Homecoming Service on Sunday, September 24.  Rev. Lyle was Pastor of Fincastle UMC from 1993 to 2001.  He is now retired after 33 years of ordained ministry.  Mike’s poetry has been published or is forthcoming in Dappled Things, Haiku Journal, The Hollins Critic, Hummingbird and IthacaLit.  His essays “Feast” and “Enemy” were winners of The Buechner Narrative Writing Project and published in The Christian Century.  In 2005, he published Gathered Stones, Divine Encounters in Everyday Life, a book of stories from his early years in ministry.  Join us in welcoming Rev. Mike and Brenda to Homecoming!  Following the combined 11 am worship service, Fun & Fellowship will provide a luncheon in the Family Life Center.  The menu includes herb stuffing  encrusted baked chicken, baked ham with raisin sauce, marinated vegetables, mac and cheese, green beans, fruit salad, and tossed salad.  Volunteers will be asked to bring a dessert item to share.

The fall schedule begins on September 13, 2017, and continues through early December.  If you are a first time visitor to TOW, your first meal is free!  The suggested donation for the meal is $4 per person with a cap of $12 per family.  Contact the church office at 473-3001 for more information about programs each week.

The organization name is Fincastle United Methodist Church or number 83895

Once your card is linked, you don't have to do anything further to benefit FUMC every time you shop!
